Save space on iPhone in 8 ways (Keep It Running Smoothly)

Updated: Oct 3

Running out of iPhone storage? You’re not alone. Between photos, videos, apps, and downloads, it doesn’t take long to hit that dreaded “Storage Almost Full” message. The good news? You don’t need to upgrade your phone just yet.

Here are 8 simple, effective ways to free up space on your iPhone — and keep it running like new.

1. See What’s Taking Up Space 🔍

Go to Settings > General > iPhone Storage.

You’ll get a breakdown of what’s using the most storage — whether it’s apps, photos, messages, or media. Start your cleanup based on this!

2. Delete or Offload Unused Apps 🗑️

If you haven’t used an app in months, it’s time to let it go.

You can also offload unused apps (Settings > iPhone Storage > Enable “Offload Unused Apps”). This removes the app but keeps your data in case you reinstall it later.

3. Manage Your Photos & Videos 📸

Photos and 4K videos eat up space fast. Here’s how to take control:

  • Turn on iCloud Photos and select “Optimize iPhone Storage”.

  • Use Google Photos or Amazon Photos as extra cloud backups.

  • Delete duplicates, old screenshots, and blurry shots.

  • Transfer older media to your computer or external drive regularly.

4. Clear Safari’s Cache 🌐

Browsers store data to make websites load faster — but over time, it builds up.

Settings > Safari > Clear History and Website Data

Doing this won’t delete saved passwords, just temporary files that hog storage.

5. Auto-Delete Old Texts 💬

All those long message threads (especially with videos and GIFs) take up more space than you’d think.

Go to Settings > Messages > Keep Messages and change it from “Forever” to 30 Days or 1 Year.

6. Remove Downloaded Media 🎧

Downloaded music, Netflix episodes, or podcasts? They’re useful offline — but also massive in size. Check:

  • Apple Music

  • Spotify

  • Netflix or YouTube

  • Podcasts

Delete anything you’ve already watched or listened to.

7. Clean Up Your Mail App 📥

Emails and attachments pile up quietly in the background. Delete old emails and empty the trash/junk folders. You can also change settings to only sync recent emails.

8. Use Cloud Storage Wisely ☁️

Apps like Google Drive, Dropbox, or OneDrive help you move documents, files, and photos off your phone and into the cloud — keeping your storage clear and your content backed up.
